Female Hormone Replacement2025-04-29T18:44:16+00:00

Hormonal imbalances in women, often involving estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, significantly impact reproductive health, menstrual cycles, and overall well-being.

● Estrogen

○ Role: Estrogen is crucial for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sexual characteristics. It impacts the menstrual cycle, bone density, skin health, and mood.

○ Imbalances: Low estrogen levels can lead to symptoms such as irregular menstrual cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and decreased bone density. High levels can be associated with estrogen dominance and certain hormone-sensitive cancers.

● Progesterone

○ Role: Progesterone regulates the menstrual cycle and prepares the uterus for pregnancy. It helps maintain pregnancy and stabilizes mood.

○ Imbalances: Low progesterone may cause irregular periods, difficulties in conceiving, and symptoms like anxiety or irritability. High levels, often due to hormonal therapies, can result in mood changes and fatigue.

● Testosterone

○ Role: Present in smaller amounts than in males, testosterone in women is important for libido, muscle strength, and overall energy levels.

○ Imbalances: Low testosterone can result in a reduced sex drive, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, mood changes, and a lower sense of well-being. Excess testosterone may be linked to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), characterized by hirsutism (excessive hair growth), irregular periods, and acne.

Diagnosis and Management:

● Hormonal imbalances are typically diagnosed through blood tests measuring hormone levels.

● Options for Hormone Replacement Therapy depend on the specific hormone imbalance and may include oral tablets, transdermal patches, creams, injections and pellets.

Male Hormone Replacement2025-04-29T18:44:37+00:00

Male sex hormones, primarily testosterone, play critical roles in sexual function, muscle mass, bone density, and overall health.

● Testosterone

○ Role: Testosterone is the primary male hormone responsible for the development and regulation of male reproductive tissues, promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle mass, bone density, and body hair.

○ Imbalances: Low testosterone levels (hypogonadism) can lead to symptoms such as reduced sex drive, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, loss of muscle mass and strength, increased body fat, mood changes (such as depression or irritability), difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, and a decreased sense of well-being. High testosterone levels may cause excessive aggression, acne, and other health problems.

Diagnosis and Management:

● Low testosterone is typically diagnosed through blood tests that measure testosterone levels.

● Testosterone replacement therapy options include injections, transdermal patches, gels and pellets.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?2025-04-29T18:45:42+00:00

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses hormones that are chemically identical to those naturally produced by the body, often derived from plants, such as yams.

What are Bioidentical Hormone Pellets?2025-04-29T18:46:09+00:00

Bioidentical hormone pellets are small implants inserted under the skin during a simple procedure. These pellets contain hormones that are identical in structure to those produced by the human body. They slowly release specific hormones into the bloodstream over a period of 3 to 6 months, providing a consistent level of hormones. This delivery method can help alleviate symptoms associated with hormone imbalances and maintain hormonal balance effectively.

What to Expect During Your BHRT Pellet Procedure:2025-04-29T18:46:34+00:00

● Cleansing: The area will be cleansed with a sterile solution to minimize the risk of infection.

● Anesthesia: A local anesthetic (lidocaine) will be administered to numb the insertion site, ensuring comfort during the procedure.

● Insertion: A small incision (approximately ¼ inch) will be made, and the pellet will be inserted using a trocar (a hollow needle). This method allows for a steady release of hormones over time.

● Post-Procedure Care: The insertion site will be covered with a sterile bandage after the procedure to protect it during the healing process.

What to Expect After Your BHRT Pellet Procedure:2025-04-29T18:46:54+00:00

● Keep the Area Clean: Keep the insertion site clean and dry for 24-48 hours to promote healing.

● Avoid Strenuous Activities: Refrain from strenuous exercise, swimming, or soaking in water for 3-5 days to avoid irritation at the insertion site.

● Monitor for Normal Reactions: Mild bruising, swelling, or tenderness at the insertion site is normal and should subside within a few days.

● Signs of Infection: Contact the office immediately if you experience signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, or discharge.
